Exciting times lie ahead for Newry and Mourne Museum and the local Tourist Information Centre. In late 2006, both will relocate to the newly restored Bagenal’s Castle and Victoria Bakery Warehouse in Castle Street/ Abbey Yard. The building, comprises of a 16th century castle, built by Nicholas Bagenal, and a 19th century warehouse, most recently occupied by McCann’s Bakery. It is situated on the site of Newry’s Cistercian Abbey, founded in the 12th century and it is highly appropriate that the new Museum will be located on a site of such immense historic interest.

For those interested in their Newry and Mourne ancestors, one of the facilities of the new development will be a reading room where visitors can access archival material held by the museum. For up to date information on the project please visit bc.ukfast.cds.co.uk.
